Dental Implants vs. Conventional Dentures

A dental implant over-denture connects to cylinder-like configurations (called implants) that
have been surgically implanted into the jawbone.

The dental implant denture appears like a traditional prosthesis. However, the part of the
denture overlying the dental implants is modified to retain various semi-rigid attachments that
receive dental implant extensions projecting above the gum. This arrangement helps keep a
denture securely in place while eating, speaking, and during other oral activities, but still
allows easy self-removal of the denture for cleaning purposes.

Statistics

* 40 percent of denture wearers have worn the same device for more than 10 years, which
   accelerates bone loss
* Survival rates of dental implants and devices for single tooth replacement range from a low
of 94.6 percent to a high of 100 percent for nearly seven years
* Patients spend more than $145 million annually for denture adhesive
* Dental implants can withstand 450 lbs per square inch of biting pressure; dentures wearers
often take up to no more than 50 lbs per square inch

There are two phases to this process. The first is a surgical phase consisting of two stages,
and the second is a prosthetic phase (making the implant denture).

Many patients who have selected dental implants describe a quality of life that is much more
comfortable and secure than the lifestyle endured by those with fixed bridges or removable
dentures. Dentures often make a person feel and look older than they are, cause
embarrassment in social situations when they slip and click, and restrict the everyday pleasure
of eating comfortabl

When they count the benefits they enjoy as a result of their dental implants, patients say
their implants eliminate the day-to-day frustrations and discomfort of ill-fitting dentures.

Confidence:  Dental implants will allow you to once again speak and eat with comfort and
confidence! They are secure and offer freedom from the irksome clicks and wobbles of
dentures. They'll allow you to say goodbye to worries about misplaced dentures and messy
pastes and glues.
